Big Maxon's New Bottom Log

Success! The new log under the Big Maxon cabin is in place. Great team work from all secures this cabin for many years to come. Thanks crew ..... including the wonderful Mandy for pulling the log in, and Tuesday for pulling the old log out.

Thanks to a great team, the cabin at Big Maxon has a new bottom log. Monte carved my name in it, so I guess backcountry travelers will know who came up with the idea to replace the decaying old one!

Bench Valley

Bench Valley has a lot of high glacially carved lakes. Once you make the climb, the lakes are close to each other and make traveling from one to another quite easy. This granite surrounded beauty is Schoolmarm Lake. Feel on top of the world!

Fitting the log

The team did a great job chiseling the ends of the new log to fit the logs above it. Polasky's sure are a handy tool. 

She's a Great Mule

Mandy is a great riding mule as well as pulling well under harness. She reins well and is solid in all situations. Never ridden a mule? You're missin' out! Give it a try.

Imagine Shorty Lovelace

Heavy snowfall just hit the Sierra. Had Shorty still be alive and trapping, he would have spent many days and nights in his small isolated cabins. Its hard to imagine.
